Employment with Turning Sun
Turning Sun has found that many of the best educators come from different backgrounds and levels of experience. For this reason, degrees, certifications, and experience are a plus, but not required to apply. There are 3 things which all applicants must demonstrate and which cannot be taught:
- Solid character and shares Turning Sun values.
- Evidence of a good work ethic, self-motivation, and passion.
- A natural curiosity and ability to connect with children.
TSS verifies these qualities by exploring each candidate's references, active history, social media, and through live classroom observation.

Turning Sun Educator Development Program (EDP)
Once hired, all Turning Sun staff progress though Turning Sun's Educator Development Program (EDP) which features several levels and explores a broad spectrum of specialties such as the Reggio Emilia curriculum, classroom management, project and place based learning, and training in using only positive and anti-bias language. Participants observe and learn from multiple educators and specialists inside and outside of Turning Sun, which provides them with several experienced and approachable mentors for the future. TSS also hosts several classroom visits and seminars each year to allow any educators, inside and outside of TSS, to collaborate. Speakers include experts from TSS and from around the world. Our staff enjoy access to many online training tools, some of which allow completion of annual DECAL training requirements. Our educators who seek to obtain their Child Development Associate (CDA) credential are eligible for financial assistance from TSS. Staff also have opportunities to attend and present at many conferences each year such as NAEYC, GAEYC, NAREA, and GCCA. Everyone at TSS is both a student and mentor, so new ideas are constantly being added to our evolving program from both new and tenured educators.
Career Opportunities with Turning Sun
Turning Sun offers opportunities to work as substitute or permanent educators for half or full day, as well as 2, 3 or 5 days per week. Permanent full time staff enjoy competitive salaries, 6-7 weeks of paid time off, and optional benefits such as health insurance and retirement. Summer work is optional. TSS promotes from within, so classrooom educators can advance to Lead, Coordinator, and Director levels, and may be able to work as specialists (e.g. Environmental Education). Several fun staff social events are also hosted every semester for educators to connect and recharge together.
Future Locations Owned by Staff
Seasoned Turning Sun educators may also qualify to own and operate their own Turning Sun School. TSS supports opening new campuses and their owners receive advice and training in leasing, financing, forecasting, human resources, licensing, insurance, and operations. Once open, all Turning Sun campuses are supported year round by experts in many areas such as recruiting, hiring, training, purchasing, bookkeeping, and payroll. Owners and key employees of all locations meet monthly to share advice about operations and discuss our evolving pedagogy.
