prek10“There are hundreds of different images of the child. Each one of you has inside yourself an image of the child that directs you as you begin to relate to a child. This theory within you pushes you to behave in certain ways; it orients you as you talk to the child, listen to the child, observe the child. It is very difficult for you to act contrary to this internal image.” – Loris Malaguzzi

The children work together to build a fort in the woods

Turning Sun believes children are capable and intelligent. Children are strong, beautiful, and unique. They are the protagonists of their own growth and desire to gain knowledge through relationships. From early in life they negotiate with the social and physical world- with everything culture brings to them.

Children are full of creativity. They think with all their heart and have not been told how to think about art and other ideas in the world. Uncovering their thoughts and seeing the world through their eyes is a gift to us at Turning Sun. We believe children stimulate change and are active and contributing members of our community and society as a whole. They create and change culture and the culture expressed by children should be brought to the school and the school to the city.

Children are miracles and deserve to be treated with respect and honor.  They deserve a school full of joy and support for their ideas.
