Looking out over the city

Looking out over the city

Place-based education is learning that is rooted in what is local – the unique history, environment, culture, economy, literature and art of a particular place.  The community provides the context for learning, student work focuses on community needs and interests, and community members serve as resources and partners in every aspect of teaching and learning. (Rural School and Community Trust, 2002)

7We love Atlanta! Our school believes strongly in connecting to the community and helping move Atlanta forward. Together we give the children, teachers and families a voice in our community. We bring in experts, take field trips and study topics as they relate to the city. We truly believe in Atlanta and all the people who make it so great!

Bringing the work of the school into the community changes the way people see the child and adds the creativity and vision of the children to the city. Our school takes identity from the city and we also give identity to the city.
